A Lieberman is a hand-operated bunching device, also called a bunching machine. The bunchero lays out the filler and binder leaves by hand on a rubber or leather pad, then uses a lever to roll the pad around them and form a consistent bunch. The wrapper and cap are still applied by hand.
It is not the same as machine-made production: the leaves are whole long filler, and a person controls the blend. Cigar Aficionado notes that these devices are used widely in the Dominican Republic, are rare in Central America, and are not used in Cuba. Compare the hand methods entubado, accordion, and book. Chapter: bunching and rolling by hand.
