Puro versus blend is a labeling distinction. In a puro, the wrapper, binder, and filler all come from one country. In a multi-country blend, they do not. Cuban cigars sold as Habanos are puros by definition, because Cuba grows all the tobacco it uses. Many Nicaraguan companies, including Padrón, also use only their own country’s tobacco. Many Dominican and Honduran cigars combine tobacco from several countries.
Neither type is better for flavor. Cuban-seed tobacco grown in Jalapa does not make a Cuban cigar. An Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper on Estelí filler is not a deception; it is simply the blend.
