A triple cap is a way of finishing the head of a cigar. After the wrapper is rolled, the roller winds a strip of wrapper (the flag) over the head, adds another piece, and fixes a small round cap on top with vegetable gum. The result shows three seams at the head. Habanos S.A. describes the final disc being cut from spare wrapper with a round cutter called a casquillo.
It is associated with Cuban cigars, and some non-Cuban makers use it too. Other finishes include a flag alone, a flag with a single cap (the most common on premium cigars), and the twisted pigtail. A well-applied cap of any kind lets you cut the head cleanly. Chapter: bunching and rolling by hand.
