Chaveta

Wiki · Terms · Chaveta

The chaveta is the main hand tool of a torcedor. It is a flat steel blade with a rounded, half-moon cutting edge. It is used to trim the wrapper leaf to shape on the rolling board, to cut the strip (the flag) that closes the head, and to tidy the finished cigar.

Habanos S.A. lists the chaveta among a Cuban roller's few tools, along with the wooden board (tabla), a small round cutter for caps (casquillo), vegetable gum, and a gauge for length and girth. Chapter: bunching and rolling by hand.
