Ecuador’s cloud cover provides natural shade, doing part of the job that shade cloth does in Connecticut. That is why Ecuadorian wrapper appears on so many cigar bands. Growers there use Connecticut seed for a pale, shade-grown look, habano seed for a darker, oilier leaf, and other seeds as well.
“Ecuadorian” tells you where the leaf was grown; the seed is a separate fact. An Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and an Ecuadorian habano wrapper do not smoke the same. Both are grown and sorted as wrappers, for size and elasticity, not as filler.
Ecuadorian wrapper is one of the most widely used wrappers in New World cigars. It is not another name for Cameroon or Cuban wrapper. When you know the farm and the seed, name them.
