A Churchill is a long cigar. The Cuban factory size usually cited is 7 inches by a 47 ring gauge, known in Cuban factories as the Julieta No. 2. Magazines and New World companies also use the name for cigars of similar sizes. The petit Churchill and the wide Churchill are later shop variations that use the name rather than the original shape.
The size is named after Winston Churchill, whose love of Cuban cigars, especially Romeo y Julieta, made the connection well known. Public records do not agree on when the name “Churchill” first appeared on a band, so this page does not give a year.
It is a parejo (straight-sided cigar). In practical terms, a Churchill takes an hour or more to smoke if you take your time.
