Cigar lounges around the world

Wiki · Topics · Cigar lounges around the world

A cigar lounge is a place where you can sit down and smoke a cigar indoors, usually with a walk-in humidor nearby and other smokers for company. Some are shops with a few chairs at the back. Others are private clubs with members' lockers. This chapter of Cigars 101 lists a small selection of established lounges in major cities, grouped by region, country, and city.

Verified as of October 28, 2026. Each lounge was checked against its own website or a current listing at that date. Lounges change hours, rules, and owners, and some close, so call or check the website before you travel. The list is not a ranking, and no lounge paid to be included.

Before you go

Most lounges sell cigars from their own humidor and expect you to smoke what you buy there. Some allow outside cigars for a cutting fee, and a few don't allow them at all, so ask first. Many places are 21 and over, some have a dress code, and some private clubs admit only members and their guests. Regulars at many lounges rent a cigar locker to keep their own cigars at the right humidity.

If you are new to smoking cigars, read how to cut and light a cigar and how to smoke a cigar before your first visit, so you can enjoy the cigar instead of worrying about the routine. If you will carry cigars on the trip, see travel humidors.

North America

United States: New York City, Club Macanudo

An upscale cigar lounge, bar, and restaurant on the Upper East Side, named after the Macanudo brand. It has a business-casual dress code and offers memberships.

United States: Chicago, Iwan Ries & Co.

A family-owned pipe and cigar shop in business since 1857, with a smoking lounge of three rooms on its second floor in the Loop. The lounge is bring-your-own-beverage and sells day passes as well as memberships.

Europe

United Kingdom: London, James J. Fox

A long-established tobacconist on St James's Street. England bans smoking in enclosed public places, but specialist tobacconists may let customers sample cigars on the premises, and this shop has a sampling lounge on its first floor for cigars bought there. Seats are first come, first served, and the lounge holds about 27 people.

Asia and the Middle East

Hong Kong: Central, Cohiba Cigar Divan

A small shop and smoking room in the East Lobby of the Mandarin Oriental hotel, run by Pacific Cigar, the importer of Cuban cigars for Hong Kong. It carries the name of the Cuban Cohiba brand.

United Arab Emirates: Dubai, La Casa del Habano City Walk

A La Casa del Habano shop in the City Walk district, with a walk-in humidor, private lockers, and a smoking lounge.

The Caribbean

Cuba: Havana, Hotel Nacional de Cuba

The landmark hotel in the Vedado district has a La Casa del Habano shop and a Habanos Lounge, which is open from noon to midnight. The lounge is part of the hotel, so contact the hotel to check hours before you go.

A note for readers from the United States: under current U.S. rules, Cuban cigars cannot be brought back into the United States, including in your luggage. For the background, see Cuban vs. New World cigars and the embargo entry.

Choosing your own lounge

Away from these cities, the best guide is usually a good local cigar shop. Ask whether it has seating, whether outside cigars are allowed, and whether a membership is needed. Ask what the regulars are smoking, too. A lounge is a good place to try something new, and if a cigar you liked came from that humidor, you can usually buy a few more on the way out. For a first cigar to try, see choosing your first premium cigar.

Where to go next

Smoke Rings sells the tools and not the tobacco: cutters, lighters, and humidors, sold through eBay (seller us-grai), plus empty cigar boxes for collectors. For the cigars themselves, our sponsor AbsoluteCigars.com is your best source.
