Capote is the binder. In a Cuban or Dominican rolling room you will hear it more often than the English word. It is a functional leaf: tensile, combustible, large enough to wrap a bunch in one or two pieces.
Because it sits under the wrapper, small blemishes that would disqualify a wrapper are acceptable. Strength and burn matter more than a perfect face. Some capote is chosen from the same farms as filler; some is a dedicated binder crop.
