A box press cigar started round. After the mold, it is pressed — in a box, between boards, or in a press — so the sides flatten and the corners appear. Padrón’s 1964 and 1926 lines are well-known box-pressed Nicaraguan puros; the company describes that press as Cuban in manner.
Pressing changes the draw a little and the look a lot. It does not change the blend. A box-pressed robusto is still the same leaves as its round twin if the factory says so.
It is not a figurado. The cigar is still a parejo with a new cross-section.
