Ramón Allones is a Cuban cigar brand sold around the world by Habanos S.A. Habanos dates it to 1837, which makes it one of the oldest Cuban brands still made. It is named after its founder, Ramón Allones. Habanos credits him with being the first to pack cigars in boxes decorated with printed labels and the brand’s emblem, a practice the whole industry later followed. Today the brand is made at the Partagás factory in Havana.
Ramón Allones has a small range. The best-known sizes are the Specially Selected, a robusto, and the Gigantes, a double corona. The brand is also used often for regional and limited editions, such as the Allones No. 2 limited edition of 2019. The leaf comes from the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río. Habanos rates the brand full in strength.
Because of the U.S. embargo, Cuban Ramón Allones cigars cannot legally be sold in the United States. After the 1959 revolution the U.S. rights to the name passed to a company outside Cuba. They now belong to General Cigar Co., part of Scandinavian Tobacco Group, which has made a separate non-Cuban Ramón Allones with no Cuban tobacco.
