Partagás is a Cuban cigar brand sold around the world by Habanos S.A. Jaime Partagás founded the brand and its factory in Havana in 1845. In the early 1900s the business passed to the Cifuentes family, who ran it until the 1959 revolution. For many years the factory stood at 520 Industria Street, behind the Capitol building in central Havana. It has since moved, and Habanos now gives its address as 806 San Carlos Street.
Partagás makes a wide range of sizes. The best known are the Serie D No. 4, a robusto, the Lusitanias, a double corona, the 8-9-8, and the Serie P No. 2, a pyramid added in 2005. The leaf comes from the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río. Habanos rates the brand full in strength, and it is known for a strong, rich flavor.
Because of the U.S. embargo, Cuban Partagás cigars cannot legally be sold in the United States. After the revolution Ramón Cifuentes left Cuba, and in the 1970s he licensed the Partagás name in the United States to General Cigar Co., now part of Scandinavian Tobacco Group. General Cigar makes a separate non-Cuban Partagás in Santiago, Dominican Republic, with no Cuban tobacco: Partagás (Dominican).
