Vegas Robaina

Wiki · Brands · Vegas Robaina

Vegas Robaina is a Cuban cigar brand sold around the world by Habanos S.A. It was created in 1997 in honor of Alejandro Robaina, the best-known tobacco grower in Cuba, and through him of all Cuban tobacco farmers. Robaina died in 2010. His family has grown tobacco since 1845 at Cuchillas de Barbacoa, near San Luis in the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río. The farm is known above all for its wrapper leaf. “Vegas” is the Cuban word for tobacco farms.

The brand was launched with five sizes, among them the Famosos and the Únicos, a pyramid. All are made by hand with long filler, and the leaf comes from Vuelta Abajo. Habanos rates the brand medium to full in strength.

Vegas Robaina is one of the few Cuban brands named after a tobacco grower, and it was created to honor the work done on the farm rather than in the factory.

Habanos holds the trademark, and there is no separate non-Cuban Vegas Robaina. Cuban Vegas Robaina cigars cannot legally be sold in the United States because of the U.S. embargo.
