Wiki · Brands · San Cristóbal de La Habana
San Cristóbal de La Habana is a Cuban cigar brand sold around the world by Habanos S.A. San Cristóbal de La Habana was the original Spanish name of the city of Havana. The brand was launched in 1999 to mark the city’s history at the start of the new millennium.
The first four sizes were named after the forts the Spanish built to defend Havana between the 1500s and 1700s: El Morro, La Fuerza, La Punta, and El Príncipe. El Morro and La Fuerza are factory sizes used only by this brand. In 2004 three sizes named after streets in Old Havana were added: Mercaderes, Oficios, and Murallas. In recent years many new San Cristóbal cigars have been made only for La Casa del Habano shops. The leaf comes from the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río. Habanos rates the brand light to medium in strength.
Cuban San Cristóbal de La Habana cigars cannot legally be sold in the United States because of the U.S. embargo. A different brand called San Cristobal, without “de La Habana”, is sold in the United States by Ashton. It is made in Nicaragua at the My Father factory with no Cuban tobacco and has no connection with the Cuban brand.
