Gurkha is a cigar brand associated with Kaizad Hansotia. It is known for limited editions and a wide range of premium cigars sold in the United States. Its cigars have been made by various New World factories rather than by one long-established family factory.
Since being brought back to life from the pages of the cigar history books, Gurkha has consistently introduced exquisitely handcrafted cigars that epitomize the essence of luxury. It was in 1989 that Kaizad Hansotia took it upon himself to revive an age-old cigar brand, one with a rich tradition, steeped in legends and deep in history – Gurkha cigars, going back 100+ years were renowned for their premier, artisanal cigar craftsmanship.
Little did Hansotia know that the cigar industry was on the verge of what would become known as 'the cigar boom', and his newly revived brand would not only attract cigar traditionalists, but also a new generation of cigar enthusiasts. Recognizing a general lack of super premium cigars in the market, he associated Gurkha with luxury and elegance, which led to its lofty reputation, as he deliberately created cigars that transcended necessity and became a symbol of luxury and indulgence.
Today, Gurkha Cigars has massively expanded its range and its image. With superb cigars still at the highest level as well as a tremendous range, boasting over 100 brands. Many are well accessible to all, at price points suitable for just about any budget. Those with an unlimited budget still have Gurkha options with brands, presented in often ornate packaging and bearing a hefty price tag with brands that cater to those seeking luxurious and exclusive products - the so-called ultra-premium cigar category.
For many, Gurkha cigars symbolize status, sumptuousness, and Limited Edition cigars. Nevertheless, the beauty of a meticulously handcrafted and aromatic cigar is a pleasure that can be enjoyed by anyone, representing the finer things and moments in life. Indeed, throughout history, cigars have been associated with celebration, enjoyment, and camaraderie, making the act of smoking a cigar a truly memorable experience, and available to all.
